State Hill Day History

Through WVOTA member efforts with state advocacy, WVOTA has assisted the legislation in passing several important bills that directly affect Occupational Therapy in WV. WVOTA Legislative Committee has been an active resource with the first State Hill Day at the State Capitol in 2004, and remaining consistent with those efforts every year since. 

Legislative Highlights

WVOTA members were instrumental in the following events.

1978 Passage of West Virginia Occupational Therapy Practice Act (Licensure)

2009 Passage of revised West Virginia Occupational Therapy Practice Act (Licensure)

2018 Inclusion of Occupational Therapy in West Virginia Opioid Reduction Bill as one of the treatment alternatives in reducing Opioid abuse.

2020 Governor Justice declared April Occupational Therapy Month
