The West Virginia Occupational Therapy Association is a non-profit organization with volunteers that encompasses professionals within the community

Who We Are

Our History

The West Virginia Occupational Therapy Association (WVOTA) was established in the 1970’s and has always been dedicated to representing the concerns and needs of occupational therapy practitioners throughout West Virginia. Our early accomplishments include:

  • Obtaining statewide licensure for the profession of occupational therapy in 1978;
  • Developing the first occupational therapy educational programs in the state;
  • Advocating for a master’s degree program in occupational therapy at West Virginia University in 1996, and an associate degree program at the College of West Virginia in 1998;
  • Convening the Great Southern Occupational Therapy Conference in 2000.

Our Mission

WVOTA demonstrates our three-pronged mission through the many actions we take on behalf of our membership:

Continuing Education  We provide the opportunity for our members to advance their learning and earn credit through participation at our annual state conference and our  frequent workshops and lectures.

National Representation  Through our participation in the representative assembly (RA) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), we voice the unique concerns our members at the annual AOTA conference and at RA meetings that take place throughout the year.

Longevity of Our Profession   We pursue every opportunity to enhance the profession of occupational therapy by anticipating the growing needs of the practitioners, thereby ensuring the long life of occupational therapy in West Virginia.
